Certainly, depending on your pot size a mix of 10-20% biochar dug in around the roots of the plant is ideal. For hanging baskets use a 50% mix.

Using biochar on trees has great benefits. If you are planting a new tree, then add 1-2 litres of biochar to the pre dug hole before planting the tree. For existing young trees, add biochar around the root bowl and work in. The root bowl is the area of the canopy of the tree in square meters and 1 litre per square meter is required.

Yes it can, work in the biochar as deep as possible around the base of the tree. Depending on the tree 2L per square meter should be sufficient. Please remember most orchard trees have a short life span of only 35 years before they are replaced.

In simple terms biochar acts like a hard shield around the root ball of the plant ensuring moisture is retained close to where it is needed by the plant. Even in the worst soil types, up to 50% of water can be saved.
